January in numbers: online

The most recent online ABCs show the Independent—which starred in last month’s Above the Fold after growing its daily average unique browsers by 7 per cent—came crashing back down to Earth in December.

The website appears to be hemorrhaging readers, losing nearly 1.25 million daily browsers compared with the previous month. That’s a 21.8 per cent decline.

And the quieter festive season didn’t make much easier reading for its competitors. Mail Online (-10.9 per cent), the Sun (-7.5 per cent), the Evening Standard (-12.5 per cent) and Trinity Mirror Group (-1.3 per cent) all suffered losses.
