10 fitness classes to try when the gym just won’t cut it

Exercising in London can be a daunting prospect. It seems that a lot has changed on the work out front from when I used to half-heartedly mooch around the local gym spending ten minutes at each machine with a few sit ups tagged onto the end.

Last year I finally caved and decided to take my fitness regime a little more seriously. I realised I was fast approaching 30 and my metabolism wasn’t quite as fast as I was at booking dinner at the latest restaurant openings. As a result I signed myself up to Class Pass, a class based members club, which allows users to try out all sorts of classes around London.nAs a reluctant gym bunny I enjoyed the flexibility and exploration that came with not being tied down to any one form of work out. If I hated it I simply moved onto something else – the perfect solution for a truly fickle fitness freak.

After over a year of exploring London’s gym scene, below is my roundup of some of the best classes I have tried – no matter what your style, fitness level or experience London is home to a bunch of very creative fitness pros, there will definitely be something out therefore you.

My top picks:

Best for: incredible facilities; free cleats; delicious smoothies

Ten: reformer pilates; HIIT

Best for: small class sizes; varied locations

Studio Lagree: hard-core reformer

Best for: muscle burn like you have never experienced!

Frame: everything from barre to boxing

Best for: fun; unusual classes such as 80s aerobics – leg warmers at the ready!

Pure Ride: spinning

Oncore: spinning; HITT; yoga

Best for: weekend work-outs

Barrecore: hard-core barre
