Footy rivals unite to end street violence
Eulogy! works on a pro-bono basis with Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT), the community arm of Charlton Athletic FC, to raise the profile of the organisation and the work that it does within local communities across the south east region.
CACT uses football as a tool to help drive social change. Core programmes centre around social inclusion, education, disability and mental health, street violence and addressing offender behaviour.
Following relegation, Charlton Athletic FC were scheduled to play close neighbours and arch-rivals Millwall FC on 19th December 2009 for the first time in many years. Given the close proximity of the two clubs, and the reputation of Millwall FC fans, this match was earmarked by both clubs and the police to be a tense affair.
Our hard-hitting national campaign, featured in this week's PR Week, helped to diffuse possible tension around the game, highlighted the dangers of street violence by promoting the work of CACT, and told the story of two families who had lost children to street violence, the Knox and Mizen families.
